A website crammed with
evidence of children's creativity
Listen to Children's Favourite Poems Online
In an entertaining and highly engaging project, the English and IT departments at Malsis school are joining forces to create an online sound gallery of children's favourite poems using the multimedia file upload facility available on Millennium Schools.

Deputy Head and English teacher, David Walker, says, "This project has generated plenty of interest around the school and smiles and laughter have been very much to the fore; the children have thought long and hard choosing their favourites and some have enjoyed putting their poems to music too!"

The poems are published on Malsis School's website using a Multimedia File Upload template, which enables Millennium Schools account holders to upload ANY kind of file to their school website. In addition to sound files, users can enhance their websites with a wide range of other files including word documents, powerpoint presentations, flash movies, MP3, video and excel spreadsheets.

Website Award for Millennium Schools Users
Caldicotes School in Middlesbrough have won second prize at the Net04 Website Awards for their website which has been built using Millennium Schools.

The website awards, which were held in February, are run by the Northern Education and Technology Show and sponsored by Intuitive Media. The judges were specifically looking for evidence of pupils directly publishing their own work on the website.

The teachers and pupils of Caldicotes School work together to create and maintain a rich and colourful website using Millennium Schools website building tools. On receiving their prize of a digital camera, headteacher Mr Howes said, "Our school is in the top 5% in England for adding value to the education of children aged 7 to 11. ICT has made a significant contribution to this achievement, and we have found that Millennium Schools, which gives children the ability to publish their own work directly to a world wide audience, is a wonderful stimulus to improving the quality of their work."

Millennium Schools is helping teachers to creatively embed ICT in the curriculum. The award is a wonderful endorsement for the exemplary use of Millennium Schools.

Intuitive Media at BETT
Charles Clarke Praises Intuitive Media at BETT
The British Secretary of State for Education, Charles Clarke praised the work of Intuitive Media when he visited our stand at the BETT Education and Technology Show in January. During his Opening Keynote Speech, Mr Clarke stated the importance of every child in England having an International dimension to their personal curriculum and the need for a step change in the use of ICT. He identified pedagogy, distance learning and personalised learning as key features to achieving these goals.

Carole Fletcher and Bob Hart were delighted to have the opportunity to explain how Intuitive Media's goals and passions support Mr Clarke's objectives - in particular how Intuitive Media helps teachers to embed ICT into the curriculum through online projects that promote Global Education. The team was delighted when Mr Clarke stated that the work of Intuitive Media is very important to Education in the UK.

Intuitive Media also received visits from International Education Ministers who similarly value the contribution Intuitive Media is making to the Global Education agenda. Many were also keen to get involved in Intuitive Media's growing International Teacher Training programme which will help teachers use ICT to enrich their curricula through participation in online Global projects.

The BETT Education and Technology Show took place at Olympia, London from 7 - 10 January.

Read the ICN News
International Children's News on SchoolNet Global
We are inviting SchoolNet Global children from across the globe to contribute to International Children's News, a NEW feature on SchoolNet Global, which will will go live in a few weeks. International Children's News is an online news channel for SchoolNet Global. We welcome news from children about subjects that interest them.

The International Children's News will help promote intercultural understanding and language learning. For some, getting their news stories through could be a real challenge. Like children from Ausros Gymnasium in Lithuania who are working against the odds to get their news online. They are using the nearest Internet Cafe to send and receive email. Their teacher, Ruta Kupriene writes, "We like the idea of ICN very much. We shall try to take part. We have already started selecting material for the Childhood Memories project, but the aerial on the roof of our school burned down, and the school is without Internet connection. Nobody knows when it will be repaired."

Collaborative Sites for Europe
European SchoolNet promotes collaboration and interchange of ideas and resources between European schools. For the first time they gave schools the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas at the European Schoolnetworks Conference in Brussels.

Intuitive Media Directors, Bob Hart and Carole Fletcher, were invited to give a keynote presentation to 380 pioneering teachers from 30 European countries. Bob and Carole take turns to present, and this time it was Bob's turn.

He presented Millennium Schools and its sister project SchoolNet Global. There was enormous interest in both projects - particularly in the possibilities of several schools collaborating to create joint project websites.

So watch out over the coming months for schools and education projects from Europe joining the Millennium Schools community.

My World Competition Launch
February 1st sees the launch of the Millennium Schools My World project, which is designed to help pupils learn more about the everyday lives of other children around the world.

Schools can enter a class or group of children, who will collaborate in their research, using any medium including the Internet, newspapers, magazines, television, radio and contact with friends and family overseas. Pupils then build a special Millennium Schools website to show their work, and the best sites will win big prizes for the school. Join My World.
